From paper test sheets to portal-ready: retiring the triple-entry
The average electrical test result in Australia is still written down three times: once on a clipboard at the switchboard, once into a spreadsheet or Word template that night, and once more into a state portal or certificate form. Each copy is a chance to transpose a digit — and the last two happen at the kitchen table, on your own time.
The state portal isn't the problem
NSW's eCert, Victoria's ESVConnect, SA's eCoC and WA's eNotice are mandatory, legally load-bearing systems — they are where your certificate legally exists, and no third-party app replaces them. But they are lodgement systems, not field tools: none of them helps you at the board, holding probes, capturing sixty readings in test order.
The paper in the middle is the problem
- Transcription errors:every re-type is a new chance for 0.31 Ω to become 3.1 Ω on the legal record.
- No validation at the board:paper doesn't know the AS/NZS limits, so a failing reading is discovered at the desk — or by an auditor — not while you're still on site and able to fix it.
- Deadline pressure: NSW gives you 7 days, WA gives a Notice of Completion 3 working days, VIC certifies in 4 business days. The evening data-entry backlog is exactly where those deadlines slip.
- Retention: states expect years of records. A ute dashboard is not an archive.
What “portal-ready” looks like instead
With Field Efficient, the reading is captured once — spoken, photographed, or imported from the instrument — validated against the relevant AS/NZS limit on the spot, and filed against the right job and circuit. From that single capture flow the branded client report, and the state certificate fields for NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and WA, are assembled for you — a copy-ready deck in your portal's own field order. You still log into the portal, you still sign, you remain the licensed tester of record. You just stop being the typist.
The short version
Keep the portal — it's the law. Retire the clipboard, the spreadsheet and the second and third typing of every number. One capture, validated at the board, feeding the report and the certificate both.
Field Efficient turns your test data into branded, standards-validated reports — automatically.
